SCL Seminar by Oleh Omel’chenko

SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, will be held on Thursday, 4 May 2017 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

"Introduction to chimera states"

will be given by Dr. Oleh Omel’chenko (Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics, Berlin).

Abstract of the talk:

Chimera states are self-organized patterns of coherence and incoherence observed in systems of nonlocally coupled oscillators. In this talk we try to give an overview of this phenomenon, including description of the underlying dynamical models, basic properties of the chimera states and the mathematical tools for their analysis. We show that in the large system size limit many properties of the chimera states can be inferred from the corresponding continuum limit equation. In particular, this equation can be used to classify different types of coexisting chimera states and to design non-invasive control schemes capable to stabilize unstable chimera states.
