SCL Seminar by Aristeu R. P. Lima

SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, will be held on Thursday, 29 June 2017 at 14:00 in the “Zvonko Marić” lecture hall of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

"Dipolar Quantum Gases"

will be given by Dr. Aristeu R. P. Lima (Department of Physics, UNILAB, Fortaleza, Brazil).

Abstract of the talk:

Ultracold quantum systems featuring the long-range and anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction have received growing experimental and theoretical attention since the realization of a dipolar Bose-Einstein Condensate of chromium atoms, back in 2005 at the University of Stuttgart. Since then, many other important experiments followed, pushed by and triggering further theoretical investigations. Among the chief experimental recent results, the formation of quantum droplets in bosonic dysprosium and the deformation of the Fermi sphere in erbium stand out. In this talk, we will discuss the influence of quantum fluctuations in dipolar Bose gases [1], which turned out to be crucial for the droplet-formation process. Moreover, we outline the investigation of dipolar Fermi gases for the case of arbitrarily oriented dipoles [2], which is very relevant from the experimental point of view.
