SCL Seminar by Edib Dobardzic

On May 9, 2014, at 14:00, in the library of the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Edib Dobardzic (Faculty of Physics, University Of Belgrade) presents a seminar talk entitled:

"Generalized Bloch's theorem and implications for Berry curvature"

Abstract: Bloch's theorem enables reduction of the eigenvalue problem of the single-particle Hamiltonian (overlap matrix, dynamical matrix, etc.), commuting with translational group, to a unit cell of a crystal. Besides this restriction, only to translations, it can be generalized to any symmetry group (being symmetry of a crystal) with a little help of group theory. This generalization provides a simple condition on Hamiltonian gauge in which Berry curvature, as an intrinsic magnetic field, maintains the symmetry of a crystal.
